LETTING GO
With Applied Movement
As yogis, our ultimate goal is reaching that state of samadhi, or bliss. Along the way, what will help us stay on that path are the qualities of humility and innocence. One of my mentors reminded me of that, and I wanted to pass the message along to all of you. Whether it be on your mat or just in your daily life, see if you can tap into those qualities of humility and innocence that you already have inside you. - Karen Vance
Stepping into the presence of Karen Vance immediately evokes calmness. Ms. Vance is the co-owner and yoga instructor at the newly opened Applied Movement Center in Kakaako. She is a certified Hatha Yoga Instructor, and teaches Yoga Basics, Intro to Yoga and Vinyasa Flow Yoga (which means linking your movements with your breath). Her teachings focus on strengthening the bond between our mind and body, and she strives to cultivate an awareness to live our lives to the fullest extent, using the body, the mind, and the breath as vehicles to conquer our fears and reveal our true selves.
After attending the morning flow yoga class at Applied Movement on Wednesday mornings, it has helped me to experience the kind of presence in my daily life that I have been lacking.
When I asked Ms. Vance about the benefits of yoga, she recited something that one of her favorite teachers had told her, ”Yoga is more about strengthening your mind and your heart first, then bringing that strength into your physical body.”
The class has become my Wednesday weekly ritual. Every time I go, I learn something new, and leave feeling revived and ready for the day!
Namaste!
