June 1 - 30, 2010 at The Contemporary Museum Cafe
GRADY GILLIAN
“This is my first gallery show and its so awesome to show my stuff alongside such talented people in such a great location.” Grady Gillian’s photography was initially inspired by the photographes he collected for his blogs: keggersofyore.com and alohafriday.org. Using primarily point and shoot 35mm cameras, Grady captures finite moments of youthful celebration and idyllic whimsy.

AARON YOSHINO
“I take pictures documenting the independent art, music and nightlife in downtown Honolulu. It’s something unique, culturally vibrant, important, and ultimately influential. “(While you were sleeping) is show featuring a wide variety of nightlife photographers, from different genres of nightlife.”

CHRISTA WITTMIER
“I liked the idea of taking the photos out of context, but still leaving them in some sort of order. The changes in the scene are slight, but vary greatly over the past 5 years when compared side by side. I show photos the way I see them. I like the ones people don’t know I’m taking the pics.”

JOSEPH PA’AHANA
I am a Maui raised visual artist that has planted my feet in Oahu soil. My work is a mix of graphic arts, video processing and illustrative story telling. Using this skill set, I hope to provide insight in the relationship of our conscious life to that of our unconscious life.

ALEX DELAPENA
Alex Delapena’s photos focus on musicians and concerts. “As a musician and photographer, I enjoy capturing raw energy at shows. For While you were sleeping my photos show movement of Hawaii’s rock scene. I don’t like wearing earplugs because I like feeling the music as I take photos. My love for music will always be first then photography, second.”

Josh Hancock is the Curator of While you were Sleeping and Contemporary Museum Cafe Employee. “It was a great experience to work with all the artists. I have been seeing their work mainly on computer screens, so to see it hanging on the walls of the Contemporary Museum, I feel proud for them and just stoked to see it all together.”
