Today was the first day of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. One of the first shows was Project Runway and we caught up with some of the designers to capture what they wore.

3rd ANNUAL “FRESH” FASHION EVENT
A Benefit for Community Helping Schools

The PINC community assistant program along with the Valerie Joseph Boutique presented a benefit, “Fresh” to support Community Helping Schools last Sunday at Rumours Nightclub. PINC (Partners Inspiring Nouvelle Concepts) is an internship program designed exclusively for University of Hawaii students under the mentorship of Valerie Ragaza-Miao of the Valerie Joseph Boutique. Interns Janette McKeone and Priscilla Ko were given the opportunity to host this event. The fashion show included young designers Kristen Domingcil, Jennifer Fukino, Rachel Pavlis and Valerie Joseph. Celebrity makeup artist, Nolan Robert was also featured in the event.

So briefly, who is KATE?
I grew up on a farm and was raised by my father. I was a tomboy growing up and always very down to earth. Although still very down to earth, I have learned to enjoy the finer things in life. My husband and I have worked really hard to get where we are today.

What inspired you to get in to skin care?
I went to school for interior design, but we lived in a small town, which made it difficult for me to succeed in my career as a interior designer. A dermotologist friend suggested I go into skin care so I went back to school. I was fearless because I was naive. I was a sponge, and took in everything I possible could, and soon became a clinician and businesswoman.

How did you become one the most trusted names in skin care and the hottest celebrity facialist?
I was led down this path. My friends ask if I knew I would be this big and I did, I just knew. What’s hard is to translate that intimate interaction with my clientele while selling to the masses. I was CEO of the company and it almost killed me physically and spiritually, so I went back to being founder and owner. I truly enjoy the interaction with clients…seeing and changing people. Making my clients look and feel beautiful!

Whats your favorite KATE product?
Exfolikate – It helps to exfoliate and remove dry skin, and Deep Tissue Repair-Which brings the mositure back in to your skin.

What is the best piece of advice that you could give someone that wants healthy, glowing skin?
Exfoliation and hydration. It’s why my clients look so good on the red carpet. If you maintain this over time, it keeps your skin healthy.

What has been the highlight of you career?
Success. But also its the people who fulfill me - their transformation. The transformations of not only my clients, but my employees. It makes me feel so good to see my employees start off with not much at all, and becoming successful enough themselves to buy the car or home they have been wanting.

How would you describe your fashion style?
Hippy Chic. I wear what makes me feel good.

Do you have a favorite quote that you would like to share with our readers?
“Let go and let God “ is a quote I have learned to use and love.
